about dP

designing Permaculture is me, Warwick Bone, aka Woz. I study, teach and live a Permaculture and Holistic Management inspired life.

I have studied Permaculture for many years now, being active in both local and statewide community groups in Australia, and participating in many designs, implementations and permablitzes. More recently I have also been studying Holistic Management, which has a slightly different perspective to Permaculture.

They are both excellent and well established systems, both still evolving and growing, and both with similar goals – to regenerate the earth whilst supplying for our needs with a reduced footprint. Together, Permaculture and Holistic Management form a stronger design system than they do separately, so that is what I teach – Holistic Permaculture Design. Add in some Biodynamics, Natural Sequence Farming, Pattern Thinking, Design Thinking, Biomimicry, and so on, and the possibilities can be very powerful indeed.

My teaching include various forms of environmental design, the original starting point for Permaculture, such as vegetable and herb gardening, forest gardening, stock management, water management, energy, housing, infrastructure and so on, with supportive practical and experiential material. However, I am very interested in Permaculture Beyond the Garden; that is, how Holistic Permaculture Design can be used in Business, Community, Families, and more.

I think of myself as a Permaculture Thinker, by which I mean not so much one who uses Permaculture Thinking, although of course I do, rather one who Thinks about Permaculture and how we can take it to the next level – how we can improve the design system by incorporating ideas and techniques from other design and planning systems and applications – how we can build a better understanding of the basic foundational building blocks that make up the system.

Mostly, I think and research about how we can use Permaculture Design, to better design Permaculture Design, so we can better design Permaculture.
